Getting Started With RMview

Getting Started With RMview

Welcome aboard! This guide will help you activate RMvite in a Jira, configure key settings, and see your first requirements organized. Let’s get set up.

1. Install RMview

  1. Go to Jira Administration → Apps → Find new apps.

  2. Search for “RMview”.

  3. Click Install - it will add RMview to your Jira instance.

  4. Once installed, you’ll see an RMview icon or menu under “Apps” in project sidebar.

2. Open Configuration

  • After installation, open RMview from the Jira sidebar.

  • The first screen you see is the Configuration page, this is where you map how RMview will understand your project’s structure.

3. Define Folder & Requirement Types

  • In the configuration, pick your Folder Work Type and Requirement Work Type from dropdowns.

  • If those issue types don’t exist in your project, click “Create Custom Type”, RMview lets you define them on the fly.

  • Once created, choose to “Add to Scheme”, so they become available across relevant projects.

4. Select Link Types Between Folders & Requirements

  • RMview needs to know how things connect.

  • Choose a link type for Folder → Folder (e.g. contains)

  • Choose a link type for Folder → Requirement (e.g. defines, includes)

  • You can also create custom link types here if your team uses specific terminology.

6. Enter Document View

  • Click “Document View” in that project’s sidebar to go into RMview’s main interface.

  • At first, it might show an empty canvas (if no folders exist yet).

7. Create Your First Folder

  • On an empty screen, click “Create Folder”.

  • The “Create Issue” dialog appears, preselecting the folder work type you set during configuration.

  • Fill fields like Summary, Description, etc., then Save.

  • That folder now appears in your Document View tree.

8. Add Sub-Folders & Requirements

  • Within an existing folder, click “Add Folder(Sub-Folder)” or “Add Requirement” to expand your hierarchy.

  • RMview ensures all newly added items adopt the proper work type (folder or requirement).

9. Toggle Hierarchy View

  • Use the “Hierarchy View” toggle at the top to switch between:

    • Document (linear) view - scrollable spec-like format

    • Tree (hierarchical) view - see parent-child structure clearly

10. Start Organizing & Working

  • Drag & drop items to reorder or re-parent them

  • Click requirement cards to inspect details, open in Jira, or see links

  • Use filters, sorting, or JQL search to narrow down your view

  • Export to CSV or print for stakeholder reviews
